What do we do?

Heta creates a positive future for individuals and communities by working with those experiencing disadvantage or barriers to employment, training and community participation.

  • Support includes: assessment, case management, employment skills development, job placement and training.
  • Disadvantage could be: financial, cultural, intellectual, physical, emotional or just not getting what you need!

Heta delivers Disability Employment Services (DES), New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS), Indigenous Employment Services, and is an approved Skills for All Training Provider delivering accredited training qualifications.

How do we do it?

We source government funding; through tenders and grants so that we can deliver quality programs that support people to be independent.

We are also fortunate enough to have corporate support from socially responsible partners who want to give back to those who need it most and offer a volunteer experience that changes lives through engagement and understanding.

About

At Heta we assist job seekers by helping them gain sustainable and meaningful employment. Heta works with job seekers before and after employment to ensure they have the skills, knowledge and support to succeed.

Heta staff use a range of approaches to assist learners to achieve the desired outcome. Skill development can include basic computer operations, preparing job applications, interview techniques and resume development. Work experience can also be arranged. There are fun and interactive programs to improve every individual’s employability.

Heta also delivers accredited training and is a Skills for All Training provider. Students may be eligible for additional employability support through Heta’s Learner Support Program.

Privacy

Heta respects the privacy of all Heta people including members, employees, volunteers, our clients/beneficiaries, business partner’s donors and online users, and is committed to safeguarding the personal information that is provided to us.

Personal information collected by Heta is protected by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the ‘Privacy Act’). Personal information is any information that can be used to identify you and includes sensitive employment and health information.

Heta follows the Australian Privacy Principles contained in the Privacy Act in handling personal information from clients/beneficiaries, business partners, donors, members of the public and Heta People (including members, volunteers, employees, delegates, candidates for volunteer work and prospective employees).

Heta has developed a Privacy Policy to protect your privacy. The Policy is available in hard copy on request, or may be downloaded using the link below, and contains detailed information about Heta’s responsibilities, your rights, and the information that may be collected by Heta and how it would be used.

The primary purpose for collecting personal information from you is to provide employment and health services to people in need, including planning, funding, monitoring and evaluating our services. The kind of personal information we collect will depend on your relationship with Heta (e.g. as a client, donor, business partner, employee, volunteer or member, on line user of the Heta website).

We usually collect personal information directly from you. However, we sometimes collect personal information from a third party such as an employer, training provider, your carer, trustee or authorised representative or from a publicly available source, but only if;

  • You have consented to such collection or would reasonably expect us      to collect your personal information in this way, or
  • if it is necessary for a specific purpose.

We only collect personal information for purposes that are reasonably necessary for one or more of our functions or activities.

Your personal information may be used:

  • Provide you with goods or services
  • Provide you with educational information
  • Report to government
  • Respond to your feedback or complaints

Training

As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), Heta offers flexible, professional and individualised services to all learners. Registered Training Organisations are Government-approved providers of nationally recognised training. RTOs are recognised as providers of quality training and are authorised to issue nationally recognised qualifications.

At Heta, programs are run across a range of qualifications and are fully supported by our training team. A training plan is developed between the participant and the trainer to ensure that the content is suitable, support needs are identified and a training and learning approach is established to ensure the best possible chance of success.

Heta delivers training in a range of styles including: classroom, distance learning and workplace-based. Recognition for prior learning (RPL) is available. Some programs have specific attendance requirements and these will be discussed at the time of inquiry.

Employment

Job Seekers

At Heta we work intensively with job seekers, empowering them to become job ready and assist them in obtaining work experience and employment. Our job seekers participate in many employment focused programs and are often characterised by a high degree of dedication and commitment to their employment role.

Heta offers a range of programs to job seekers.

Job seekers with a disability

Heta runs a Disability Employment Services program that offers development of a personalised pathway and provides individual support for people aged 15 and over with a disability, medical condition or injury who are seeking employment.

Job seekers looking to start a small business

Heta is a New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS) provider. NEIS targets assistance to unemployed people by helping them to turn a business idea into a viable business and become a self-employed business owner. It includes accredited small business management training, income assistance and mentoring support.

Job seekers looking for further training

Heta offers flexible, professional and individualised training services to all learners. Heta delivers nationally recognised accredited courses under the Skills for All initiative and non-accredited personal development courses.

Indigenous

Heta offers Indigenous Employment Programs (IEP) that provide support and assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders through accredited and non-accredited training, work experience placements and links to employment opportunities.

Heta has developed a reputation over the years for providing individualised, support services to a range of employers willing to give an opportunity to one of its job seekers. Heta’s experienced staff will work with you to meet your recruitment needs. Best of all, our services are offered at no cost to your business. Heta offers a range of diverse and flexible employer support services in a variety of industries.

Heta always has a number of participants ready to join your business. Having completed one of our preparatory training programs, these participants are energised, motivated, and have the necessary employability skills.

We work in partnership with you to achieve safe, productive and lasting work experiences for both you and the job seeker. We believe our unique model of empowering people through our employment programs, our provision of post-placement support and our individualised approach to your specific needs will create positive outcomes your business.

At Heta we:

  • Find, screen and put forward the best match for the skill set you’re after – saving you time when engaging new employees.
  • Can arrange for potential employees to undertake up to ten days unpaid work experience in your workplace – giving you the opportunity to assess their suitability, prior to any commitments being made.
  • Offer ongoing assistance through transition and mentoring support to achieve a win-win situation for both the individual in their job, and you as the employer.
  • Arrange access to wage incentives, clothing for the job and work materials to eligible employers through a range of agencies and funding schemes.
  • Arrange access to a range of diverse and flexible employer support services, including: user choice traineeships and apprenticeships, work/life balance programs, disability awareness programs, and assessment services.

Community

Heta supports the communities in which it operates through its work as a training, employment and support organisation, as well as through the community programs they deliver.

You too can contribute to the community through Heta’s program Corporates4Communities, which works to match volunteers with organisations where there’s a request for a particular skill set.

The Community Grants Program also supports the community, providing funding to individual projects for disadvantaged members of our community.

Not only are Heta staff passionate about the work they do with participants, they also support the broader community through donations gathered at program meetings, casual days and site meetings. Heta supports a variety of local charitable organisations, nominated by staff.

News

Realistic Employment and Career Help (REACH) program with Heta

Heta is a Not-for-Profit Organisation and approved Skills for All training provider who has been delivering quality training as well as, disability employment services to South Australians for over thirty years and more recently, specialist Indigenous services. Heta is conveniently located in Adelaide City, Morphett Vale, Smithfield, Salisbury and Golden Grove.

Heta is working in partnership with Northern Futures, The City of Onkaparinga and the North East Development Agency to deliver the Realistic Employment and Career Help (REACH) program.

The REACH program is provided for people who are living in the Northern, Southern and Eastern Adelaide and Adelaide City Regions who are unemployed, under-employed or facing redundancy. It is designed to support participants in undertaking training and career development with mentoring, aimed at enhancing the participants work readiness and ability to gain employment in their local area.

Heta’s Training and Assessment Coordinator, Diane Cocks, explained that the South Australian Government has been active in supporting people living in the Northern, Southern and Eastern Adelaide Regions through its Skills for Jobs in the Regions initiative, which funds this REACH program. This is a ‘jobs-first approach’ aimed at connecting skilled, work ready jobseekers with employers and industries. People living in these regions will have the opportunity to learn new skills, or to re-skill towards new and emerging jobs in their local area.

The REACH program will be offering training in Certificate III in Aged care, Certificate III in Home and Community Care and a Retail training course which focuses on developing customer service capability. The Certificate I in Education and Skills Development is also available for those people identified as needing to improve their language, literacy, numeracy and technology skills.

Once a participant registers for the REACH program, they will receive assistance to identify appropriate career options, to learn about employment opportunities in their local area, then undertake training and work experience and receive ongoing mentoring to support them into employment.

A vital component of the program is the engagement of the participants with a mentor who is effectively a career coach, to guide them in their learning and transition to employment. Participants are supported and advised in determining their employment ambitions and in acquiring the knowledge and skills required to pursue those ambitions.

A diverse blend of job market analysis plus training in generic employability skills and relevant technical capabilities are the keys to successful outcomes.

The grantee organisations participating with Heta as mentioned above are; Northern Futures, The City of Onkaparinga and the North East Development Agency and together they provide the comprehensive industry and community networks and broad expertise that are essential for a quality REACH program.

The Hon Kate Ellis Visits Heta

Heta was pleased to host The Hon Kate Ellis, Minister for Employment Participation on April 16th, 2013 at Heta’s Adelaide office.

Minister Ellis welcomed the opportunity to speak about the DES (Disability Employment Services) program and its importance in improving employment opportunities for people with a disability. Minister Ellis acknowledged Heta’s success in being the only provider in SA to be awarded an Indigenous speciality as part of their DES contract.

Heta staff and Indigenous participants were able to share their stories with Minister Ellis about achieving employment and the resultant increase in personal growth and development as well as confidence and self-respect.

Graduations week

Congratulations to Heta participants who have graduated with Cert II in Horticulture this week – at Blakes Crossing Dog Park Launch on Monday 25 February 2013 and at Aboriginal Garden Blitz Program on Wednesday on 27 February 2013 – great work, we are very proud of you all!

First Corporates4Communities Forum

Ten community organisations have benefited from attending the first Corporates4Communities Forum that was held around the topic of Corporate Governance at the ASC Training Centre on Monday 25 February 2013. It was great to see people share their experiences, network and exchange ideas. Blakes Crossing Dog Park Project Launch

Heta is delighted to promote the opening of the new dog park at Blakes Crossing to be held on Mon 25 February 2013. 20 of Heta participants were involved in building the dog park over the last several months all the while learning valuable skills to attain their Certificate II in Horticulture. Their achievements to date have been fantastic – 12 full certificates, 7 partial completions, 3 transfers into our training program in the city and 1 work experience! Heta team would like to take this opportunity to celebrate them!

The Blakes Crossing dog park was delivered by Lend Lease as a community training and employment project in conjunction with Heta, City of Playford, Bendigo Bank, Department of Further Education, Employment, Science & Technology and Northern Futures. The training program was designed to help Heta’s participants attain a Certificate II in Horticulture and re-enter the workforce. Exciting New Project – The Peace Foundation Garden

18 participants have embarked on an exciting project of creating environmentally sustainable raised garden beds at the Graham F Smith Peace Foundation in North Adelaide. Participants started on 21 January 2013 and are working towards achieving their Certificate II in Horticulture.

Two days a week the participants are out on site, learning how to identify client’s needs, design the garden and draw a scale plan, research quotes for materials, test soil, propagate plants, use chipper to make mulch, install an irrigation system, look after plants. ‘Hands-on’ training is supported once a week in a classroom environment.

“Our participants are taking the ownership of the development of the garden and are embracing the opportunity to input their ideas into the project, particularly knowing they are supporting The Graham F. Smith Peace Foundation,” – says Josie Parenzee, Horticulture Trainer.

Graham F. Smith Peace Foundation works for Peace through the Arts and supports projects that promote environmental sustainability.
