Disability Employment Services (DES)
Heta's Disability Employment Services assists people with a disability, medical condition and/or injury to explore and develop their vocational and job seeking skills to gain open employment.
This is a free program and you do not need to be in receipt of Centrelink benefits to register.
Who is eligible?
Participants can register in our Program if they are looking for employment and:
Have a permanent (or likely to be permanent) disability
Have a reduced capacity for communication, learning or mobility; and
Require ongoing support after placement in employment; and/or
Require specialist assistance to build capacity in order to meet participation requirements.
Work Capacity for the purpose of eligibility will be determined by a Job Capacity Assessment (JCA). We can arrange this assessment for you and assist in ensuring you have the most up to date medical information.
School students can register in our Program if they are looking for employment and:
you are in the last 6 months of school and intend on looking for work
you are participating in a school based apprenticeship
you are remaining at school, but wish to look for work out side of school hours
you wish to commence a Vocational education qualification at Certificate IV level
You do not need a JCA for this (program/section/cohort)
Job in Jeopardy: If you are currently employed and you feel that you may lose your job because of your disability, medical condition or injury and:
You have been employed for at least 13 weeks.
You can contact Heta directly, there is no requirement to undergo a Job Capacity Assessment.
You may also be eligible to receive ongoing support after 26 weeks to maintain your job in the future
Tailored Programs
The Disability Employment Program recognises that individual needs vary, so we offer specially tailored programs which may include:
Development of self confidence, motivation, self-esteem
Development of communication skills
Development of teamwork skills
Development of disability spiel
Development of realistic job options
Individual job-seeking assistance
Vocational training groups
Worksite visits and work experience placements
On-the-job support
Canvassing placements specific to your individual needs
Ongoing Support
Once placed in employment Heta is able to offer you ongoing support to ensure that your employment is sustainable.Support could include:
On the job support and training
Employer support
Co-worker support and training
Counselling
There are 3 levels of support available:
Flexible ongoing support. If you need just occasional instances of support
Moderate Ongoing Support, where you would require regular fortnightly assistance.
High ongoing support, where you require regular weekly assistance.

Access and referral to the National Disability Recruitment Scheme (NDRS) who act as a recruitment service for large organisations who are looking to recruit people with disability
