Community Grants Program

Heta Community Grants Program supports members of the community who are either disadvantaged, disengaged or have a disability, undertaking a project that assists in their personal growth, or provides a benefit to the community. The funding supports individual projects that benefit Indigenous communities, youth or elderly people.

"With your assistance I was able to achieve a fantastic experience and fulfil a dream that was to play for my state. Without your financial help, I would not have been able to compete in the National Boccia Championships held in Sydney between the 29thof April to the 5thof May. Because I attended the championships I now have been given an opportunity of a life time. To try out for the Olympic Boccia team. If I am successful, I will be a part of the Olympic squad attending the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016. Thank you once again for all your assistance in helping me to fulfil a dream.”

“I am using the computer by a Genie which my chair control turns into my mouse which make me able to use the computer. I read the daily paper online, I play chess, I make up stories and I look up my pictures. I am also using email and Skype, I find Skype easier than the telephone. The use of the computer changed my life for the better, I feel less isolated by Skype. I would like to thank you very much for this program, to be able to use the computer and I hope to use it more for other things in the future. Thank you very much again."

John Lodge

“The grant has made such a difference to John’s passion around running. He will only wear his new sneakers when training or participating in Fun Runs, because he doesn’t want to ruin them. The vouchers he now has to get him to and from runs means he can participate in any fun runs coming up, whereas before he had to rely on friends to get him to the events, which meant he often missed out. His watch that is also a pedometer he uses to time himself and measure the distance of his runs. The grant has had a huge impact on John’s life and he would have never been able to afford to purchase these items if he hadn’t received the grant, so thank-you."

Amanda Flynn

"Through HETA’s investment in Amanda, she has been able to broaden her skill base, and thus has been offered an employment opportunity next year with an Adelaide Theatre Company as a tutor. The extra credentials now on her resume showcase her versatility and prove her to be most employable in her field. As a student with limited income, this additional training was out of reach for Amanda, but HETA has made this possible and next year she will be working in her chosen field. Thank you so much HETA."

Erin Johnson

"Thank you HETA for granting me some assistance with my study (Diploma for Disability Work), I feel very fortunate. I have finished the year (2011) with ‘PA’ on all assignments I have done. I have sent in my application for a parchment and I am told I will receive it soon.  I would still be here contemplating how I would do it financially if I hadn’t had the assistance of the grant. This funding has enabled me to continue, to do what I love doing!"

“Kane is a Venturer with Seaford Scouts and does activities as a mentor to other Youth in our Group. He has attended and helped with Cubs induction into Scouts. Thanks to the funding he has attended a Camp at Murray Bridge in which he was actively a part of the restoration of the Murray Wet Lands and Monarto Zoo. Kane also attended a camp at Jacks Paddock where he learnt mini survival , safety with 4xweel drive vehicles, camp cooking, rabbit skinning, whittling, and many other skills. He had a ball! Kane loves the interaction with all other youth and he is a delightful well behaved young man! He is planning to become an Adult Helper with Cubs.”

 Wendy Janssen

"Wendy is using the swing chair every day and enjoys the entire experience incredibly. She indicates at every occasion to get into the chair, and to stay in the chair. This has provided Wendy with another level of experience and particularly the ability to control the swing. This is something that Wendy took to almost immediately. Thank you again for the wonderful opportunity for Wendy, and a number of other clients who get to use the chair."

“The project went well and the cemetery looks great and clean now. There are 200 solar lights around the cemetery that look like angels and the people over at Point Pearce take the kids down for a ride; the bricks are all laid around the graves so it looks very clean. We worked very hard and the people involved did not want to stop working. The community at Point Pearce uses the hall for funerals and has its pride back: the curtains with the Aboriginal flag are up and the two big pots with black, yellow and red flowers are at the front of the stage which gives it a lovely look. I thank you and the sub-committee for your support. If it was not for your support the project would not have happened. I thank you from the bottom of my heart and Point Pearce is thankful too.”

"I have been volunteering for the Hutt Street Centre but recently I began paid employment with the Disability Advocacy and Complains Service. Having small portable laptop means that I am able to have all software I need at my fingertips. Having the ability to work as any other person would makes my work easier. You have made a really big differenmce to my life by purchasing items for me which I could never afford to buy for myself. I hope the Community Grants Program continues permanently, if it makes as much of a difference for others as it has for me it is a worthwhile and important program"
