Community Learning/Pre-Employment Programs

 

Overview

The Regions at Work Projects are developed to assist people with a disability and or learning barrier to achieve the skills and knowledge required to gain Employability Skills necessary in industry. Working with SA Works, Heta uses self empowerment, confidence building, accredited training and soft employment skills to secure sustainable and meaningful outcomes such as further education and employment. All programs facilitated by Heta, use a diverse range of training skills to assist learners to achieve the desired outcome. Training includes basic computer operations, application skills, interview techniques, resume development, confidence, empowerment workshops and work experience can be arranged. These are great, fun and interactive programs to improve ones employability.



Securing Skills in the North (Northern Regions)


Commencement Date: (Rolling Intake) Tuesday 16th February 2010

Duration: 10 week Program, running every Tuesday and Thursday

Training Times: 9am - 4pm


Program Description:

The Securing Skills in the North Program is a program developed and implemented to facilitate the learning and employability needs to those people with a Disability and or Barrier restricting them from gaining employment. This program uses a diverse range of tools and methods to increase participant’s confidence, empowerment, social inclusion, independence and decrease victim attitudes.


Program Prerequisites:

  • Participant must live in the Northern Region
  • Participant must have a disability or learning barrier

    Abilities to Work (Western Regions)


    Commencement Date: (Rolling Intake)

    Duration: Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for 8 weeks

    Training Times: 9am - 4pm


    Program Description:

    The Abilities to work program is Hospitability focused with a combination of accredited training (4 units from Business training package – participate in occupational health and safety procedures, deliver a service to customers, communicate in the workplace and work effectively with others) including work experience facilitated at the Henley Beach Kitchen and Community Centre and Port Adelaide training room. Participants can practice what they learn in accredited training immediately in the workplace at the Henley Community Centre Kitchen. The course is designed to address individual career needs of the participants and we ensure to build students self esteem and confidence ready for entering the workplace. Participants are placed one day or 2 days (2 days optional) a week at the Henley Beach Community Centre assisting in running the kitchen and undertaking all activities you would expect when working in the hospitality industry. Participants enjoy the mixture of work experience and training in a safe, supportive and fun community environment. This program has proven success, with great employment outcomes within the hospitality industry and outside the hospitality industry. This program is developed and facilitated to service and assist people with a Disability and or Barriers restricting employment.

    Securing Skills in the West (Western Regions)

    Program Description:

    Securing Skills in the West is a 10 week pre-employment program designed to increase the self confidence of individuals, identify real career pathways in the Western Region and provide them with an informal interview opportunity with local employers by way of Heta Inc engaging guest speakers throughout the delivery of the program.


    Over 20 days students will undertake accredited training covering the skills and knowledge vital to the operation of any individual entering the modern workforce. The program will have a focus on business skills which are applicable to many industries therefore increasing the fields in which participants can gain employment. Participants will also conduct self analysis exercise and be given the confidence to empower them to drive their careers in the direction they choose and leave the program with increased self confidence and a ‘can-do’ attitude.

    Return to Work (Eastern Regions)


    Commencement Date: Tuesday 10th February 2010

    Duration: Rolling Intake Tuesday and Thursdays

    Training Times: 9am - 4pm


    Program Description:

    The course is designed to address the needs of the participant in terms of gaining work, skills, confidence and self esteem. It will use both accredited and non-accredited training including mentoring and peer support, including adult learning principles and group interaction. The project aims at identifying individual skills and utilizing those skills in developing a project to which all in the group can participate and contribute. The bottom line of this course is to get all the participants back to work. This program is facilitated to cater for the needs and requirements of those people with Disabilities and or other Barriers restricting employment.

  • Participant must live in the Eastern/Metro Region
  • Participant must have a disability or learning barrier

  • Program Location: (Adelaide Office) - 24 Gilbert Street, Adelaide SA 5000

    Career Development Planning Service (CDPS) - Eyre Peninsula


    Commencement Date: July, 2010

    Completion Date: June, 2011

    Program Description:

    The Eyre Region Career Development Planning Service is a mobile Career Service designed to increase the self confidence of individuals while identifying a realistic career plan. Assistance will be given to participants who wish to up-skill, develop a resume and respond to job applications.


    The Eyre CDPS incorporates an Outreach model and Heta staff, based in Port Lincoln and Ceduna will travel regularly to Streaky Bay, Elliston, Wudinna, Cleve and Cummins to ensure that the service is available to all across the region.


    Program Prerequisites:

    The program is designed to assist people across the Eyre Peninsula who are looking to change their career or are seeking employment for the first time.


    Program Location: Port Lincoln, Ceduna & Outreach to Regional Centres
